An old Matty Healy interview has gone viral on social media thanks to his passionate plea for Oasis to reform.

Just one year ago, when Healy originally gave the interview on Q with Tom Power, it seemed unlikely that the Gallagher brothers would put aside their feud to reunite as Oasis. The band originally split in 2009, after Liam and Noel clashed at Paris’ Rock en Seine festival hours before their headline appearance.

However, a mysterious date posted on the band’s official X/Twitter account has sparked rumours that the iconic Britpop legends may in fact reunite very soon, with an announcement soon to come on August 27 at 8am.

Now, Healy’s resurfaced comments are going viral, with fans joking The 1975 frontman is to thank for the reunion. In one video, which has netted a whopping 2million views, Healy can be heard saying: “Can you imagine being in potentially – right now, still – the coolest band in the world, and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?”

“There’s not one kid, not one person, going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig,” he added, concluding: “Do me a favour: Get back together, stop messing around. That’s my public service announcement for today.” Rewatch the speech below:

Last year, Noel told NME that The 1975 were “fucking shit”, bemoaning their BRITs win for Best Rock Band in 2023.

“I was watching it with my kids, two teenage lads, thinking, ‘Is it me being a grumpy old man, or is this shit?’”, he told NME. “They were both going, ‘Oh no, this is fucking shit’. The 1975, Best Rock Band? Someone needs to re-define that immediately because that is… I don’t know what that is, but it’s certainly not fucking rock. Whatever rock is, that’s not it.”

Noel also called Healy a “fucking slack-jawed fuckwit” in a separate interview with Spin, adding: “He would never be able to imagine it? He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up.”

Healy’s comments also provoked a comical response from Liam on X/Twitter, who simply wrote: “It’s our time to waste who made him the boss of time.”

Earlier this week, Liam seemingly teased an Oasis reunion tour announcement date on X/Twitter, supposedly revealing that tour dates would drop “Nxt Friday”.

However, he fanned the flames higher after his Reading headline set on Sunday, which teased a potential announcement date for tomorrow (August 27).

Reviewing Gallagher’s headline set, NME concluded: “Will tomorrow bring the announcement of next year’s rumoured 10 shows each at Wembley and eight at Manchester’s Heaton Park? Tonight’s gig is excellent, but what makes it truly epochal is what it may represent. In revisiting the past, Liam Gallagher has perhaps ushered in a whole new era. It’s very interesting, innit? It’s a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in.”

Meanwhile, The Times reported on August 24 that the duo are looking likely to reunite in order to play a string of gigs, allegedly planned at the likes of Heaton Park and Wembley Stadium next year.

Oasis are also rumoured to be potential headliners for next year’s edition of Glastonbury Festival. If true, the set would come 30 years after the release of their seminal 1995 LP ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’

The rumours also follow Noel’s recent praise of Liam in a conversation with John Robb, saying: “I can’t sing ‘Slide Away’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ and ‘Columbia’ and all that.
