But the enemy was not there. Some strange magic, one the necromancer could not identify, had cloaked Conan from Thulsa Doom’s necrosight. Conan parried the bulk of the Atlantean Sword, sending the reanimated sorcerer stumbling across the black stone crypt. It was then that Conan readied himself to deliver the killing blow. But would it come so easily?

Jeffrey Shanks delivers part twelve of his essays on Robert E Howard and his literary world of Hyboria. In this edition, we discover the origins of the Old Dark Ones, a fictionalized pantheon of gods developed by not one, but multiple writers. This collaboration would introduce pulp fiction readers to the likes of Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, Tsathoggua, and Nyarlathotep. This is an interesting article for any fan of Robert E. Howard or H.P. Lovecraft who enjoys the behind the scenes extras on any DVD movie box set. I sure do.

What a blast! Thulsa Doom returns from the dead to take on not one, not two, but three Barbarian legends. In this issue, the origins of Conan’s Atlantean Sword are revealed, along with the cause of the Tiger King’s melancholy. This is one story you do not want to miss out on. For me, Conan the Barbarian #12 gets five stars all the way. The art and the writing are both gifts from Crom himself!
