Gamescom will be starting tomorrow, where many video gaming companies will have upcoming releases available to play at the show floor. However, one company that has had a history of having a very small presence at the event, if any at all, is Nintendo. This year is no exception, with the company announcing back in April that they will not be there.

Unfortunately, it isn’t just Nintendo itself that won’t be there. You see, when Gamescom’s organizers revealed this year’s award nominees, the “Best Nintendo Switch Game” category was not there. TheGamer asked the organizers what happened, and the response they got was that “there were too few submissions for the Best Nintendo Switch category this year. The award committee, therefore, decided to cancel the category”. So, there will not be a “Best Nintendo Switch Game” award category at this year’s Gamescom.
