“Van Helsing – Hexed”

The Hyde monstrosity has taken its toll on Julie Jekyll for many years. Each time that warped personality crawls out of her subconscious, it damages the very cellular structure with each body mutation. Liesel Van Helsing and others have tried to cure Julie through the use of modern science. Unfortunately, nothing seems to reverse the damaged tissue.

With a terminal diagnosis hanging over both Jekyll and Hyde’s heads, Julie has turned to the world of magic for answers. Now the estranged ally of Van Helsing has disappeared, and it will take every skill in Liesel’s arsenal to solve the mystery. The clock is ticking as the list of suspects continues to grow. Will Van Helsing save her friend from certain death? Collect the book to find out!

Reviewer Notes

I love the Grimm Universe more and more with every comic book I read. The main premise of these stories seems to revolve around taking classic literary characters and reimagining them as supermodel-looking women wearing sexy, low-cut outfits. It’s a bit odd, but Zenescope has a specific target market they are going after. I’m just a tourist here, so I need to become more familiar with the backlog of Grimm heroes and villains.

For this book, the artwork and writing is solid as a rock. I’m also impressed with the tight continuity between books and characters. It is apparent Zenescope cares about maintaining a world as a whole, and not just churning out random books for simple profit. I would compare Zenescope to the Marvel Comics of the 1970s and 1980s. That is, Stan Lee and Jim Shooter always made sure their writers stuck to a main timeline across all of their series.

If you’re a reader looking for a new publisher to follow, I say go with Zenescope. They have a nice library of back issues to read and continue to release new books on an ongoing schedule. I give “Van Helsing: Hexed” a solid four out of five star review. I will be picking up more Grimm comics as they are released.
