“Al Capone, Vampire”
Chicago, Illinois, a late night battle has taken place between two warring mob families, or so the police chief has spun it. Detectives Sippel and Ramirez, as well as Officer Nelms know otherwise. Vampires have infested the city, some with a history going back to the prohibition years when Al Capone ruled the streets with an iron will. Now it appears Snorky is back. This time, however, his motives are supernatural based.

I liked it. I had no idea what was going on, but I definitely liked it. Call me a newbie to the vampire-filled world of American Mythology Productions, but don’t call me Shirley. It appears that this storyline starts in a previous comic book series or one-shot. Al Capone is back from the dead and fighting with other vampires. That’s as much as I know.
Not to make things more complicated, this issue is split into three separate plot lines. I think anyway. We start with three Chicago police officers investigating a recent battle between Capone and a vampire named Lilith. Then, in another part of the city, Lady Action, of the classic Captain Action series, is busy dealing with some vampire allies. Then finally, a third “separate” plot (I think) covers more AMP vampire hunting characters from Pittsburgh.
As a fan of 1980s and 1990s indie publishers like First and Now Comics, I’m slowly dipping my toe into the American Mythology Productions line of books. How can one pass by the new release shelves and not pick up a copy of Al Capone, Vampire? The cover art alone should have every horror fan buying multiple copies for their collection. The only downside is this book seems to be more of an advertisement for future releases. It definitely has the feel of a Free Comic Book Day edition.
The writing and art here is very good for the independent publishing world, and I do plan on following this storyline as AMP releases more books. For this issue, I’m going to give Al Capone a four out of five star rating. I just hope I don’t start another mob war with this review. Capisce?!
