James Cameron is a visionary director with no shortage of stories to tell. He is also one of the only filmmakers capable of making me sit still (with minimal complaint) for more than two hours. Given that Cameron’s work is reliably impressive, we are quick to alert our readers when one of his features lands on streaming. On that note, we are pleased to report that The Abyss is now available on Hulu.
The Abyss was released in the time between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Although this sci-fi adventure doesn’t feature time-traveling cyborgs, the flick is still definitely worth a watch. But you don’t have to take my word for it. The picture is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive critical approval rating of 89%. The audience score is also overwhelmingly positive at 83%. As with much of Cameron’s output, the film runs over two hours in length. But the director is nothing if not an incredible storyteller. So, your patience will surely be rewarded.
For anyone unfamiliar, the setup goes like this:
Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio are formerly married petroleum engineers who still have some issues to work out. They are drafted to assist a Navy SEAL (Michael Biehn) with a top-secret recovery operation: A nuclear sub has been ambushed and sunk, under mysterious circumstances, in some of the deepest waters on Earth.
That’s all we have for you at present. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on which films are streaming and where to find them.
