Creep is one of the greatest found footage films ever conceived. Both the original film and the sequel surpassed fan’s expectations by a mile. However, 7 years later, fans had lost hope that they would receive a third installment to this iconic franchise.
Luckily, Creep’s creator and villain, Mark Duplass, gave fans some hope today with a cryptic TikTok video. The short clip shows Duplass dressed as the iconic Peachfuzz, the clip features the short phrase “Coming Soon.”
Update- 06/04/24 7pm Est: An update from Indiewire has just confirmed that the cryptic message is announcing a television series titled the Creep Tapes. According to the report, the series will be “an episodic series that promises to introduce horror fans to a new collection of victims from the vault of Duplass’ nameless killer. The series, co-created by Duplass and “Creep” director Patrick Brice (who also directed every episode), is currently being shopped to buyers.”
“The series is based on a collection of video tapes in the secret vault of the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer, who hires his victims to film him for the day under false pretenses,” Duplass stated. “Each episode exposes a new victim from one of the fabled ‘Creep Tapes.’”
Although Duplass has been working on an additional installment for some time now, he has hit some roadblocks. He explained these headaches in an interview with Indiewire, way back in 2020.
“We’ve written it twice, and neither of those stories are good enough, and the reason is we almost didn’t make a ‘Creep 2. We got lucky making ‘Creep,’ as cogent as it is considering how we made it, and I didn’t want to disappoint people and I didn’t want to put out a stupid sequel.”
“If we’re going to make a third one, it’d better be super inspired. We are trying and we are putting effort into it, but we are not good enough yet to make it worthwhile, so we are struggling. That’s really it”
It is refreshing to see a showrunner who takes their time to produce the perfect horror film. That being said, I don’t think Duplass will have anything to worry about with his upcoming series. Audiences love and support the Creep film and are dying to see what the creator has in store for us next.
