Reviewer Notes

I guess now I can check the “see the sequel to John Carpenter’s the Fog” off my bucket list. The legendary 1980 film starring such actors as Jamie Lee Curtis and Adrienne Barbeau is one of my all-time favorite horror movies, and in my opinion, still holds up for today’s horror audiences. Shot on a shoestring budget and forced into storyline reshoots, this was John Carpenter’s first breakout success.

It took forty plus years to see the light of day, thankfully, though the creators at Sumerian Comics have gifted us fans with an off-screen sequel to such a unique horror story. The year is 2022, and the descendants of those who survived the original paranormal event in and around Antonio Bay have returned for answers. Now a much older Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau) must rely on her son Andrew to protect those she loves from vengeful poltergeists.

I’m so thrilled to see a team of modern comic book producers actually create a sequel to a movie without straying from the original plot and character development. This book is a true continuation of the original storyline and expands on some of the characters only seen briefly in the 1980 film. Artist Marco Foderà even draws the characters to look like their onscreen actors. I had to chuckle as it appears Sumerian Comics couldn’t secure the rights to Jamie Lee Curtis’ likeness. Her loss, if that’s the case.

With all the extra details, such as the two pages of additional journal entries written by a witness to the Elizabeth Dane tragedy, I’m giving issue one of the Fog four out of five stars. I’m definitely adding this limited series to my pull list. There seems to be more surprises coming our way, so collect this one if you are a fan of the original movie.

Mrs. Corbits don’t go outside or the Fog will get you, ya old bag!
