As one of the five original X-Men, you might think we’d see Warren Worthington III in toy form relatively close in frequency to Cyclops, Jean Grey or even Iceman. But nope! Other than Archangel versions, the last classic Angel 6” Marvel Legends figure was released way back in 2005 (by Toybiz). A whole generation has grown up without a chance to buy a 6” Angel figure! Hasbro has decided that’s too long, and thus the first updated Marvel Legends Angel figure in almost two decades is now up for order!
Angel is arguably the least popular of the original X-Men, but the logistics of producing his wings accurately is another big reason that he gets the shaft quite a bit when it comes to merch.
The Archangel persona of Warren tends to be both cooler and more popular, as well as having metal wings that are a bit easier to design and produce. And so, when it comes time for a new Warren Worthington the III collectible, companies more often opt for Archangel. In fact, Hasbro released an extremely popular deluxe Marvel Legends Archangel figure a few years ago, which was a big success despite costing more than a “regular” X-Men Legends figure because of the wings.
And now, Hasbro is ready to give Angel his own deluxe boxed treatment! The 2024 Marvel Legends Angel figure is utilizing the awesome pin-free Vulcan body (from mid-2023) along with all-new wings.
The wings have 3 points of articulation so that they can be folded down or fully expanded with a wingspan that looks humongous. The feathers have sculpted details on them and look very nice.
In addition, Angel comes with interchangeable neutral and smiling heads and interchangeable fists/open hands. The smiling head looks extremely derpy to me, but as it’s an extra I don’t mind it being included. A more angry/battle head might have been nice instead.
This particular Marvel legends Angel figure is in his red and white costume, but I assume we’ll eventually see this repainted in blue and white as well. I’m genuinely not sure which costume is more popular for this character, but anecdotally it seems to be 50/50. I’m on team Red, personally.
X-Men Legends Angel is now up for pre-order, and expected to ship out later this winter. What do you think of this action figure of the X-Men’s resident cherub, Marvel collectors?
