Fresh off their usual big-time showing at New York Comic-Con 2023, Diamond Select Toys is back at it again with a bevy of new pre-orders! There’s products from a wide range of products as always (including a sweet Thrawn 1:2 scale bust!), but 4 items in particular for Marvel collectors to get excited about—Marvel Select Archangel, Marvel Gallery Silver Surfer, Marvel Animated Ghist Rider and a Legends in 3D Cyclops bust are all up for pre-orders now!
Not visiting the DST booth at various events is one of the big con “activities” I miss not being able to do most since my strokes, but the photos and videos of the Diamond Select booth at NYCC 2023 sent in by staff and posted on social media were enough to get me hyped up about some recently revealed items—and now most of those items have opened for P.O. !
It’s not the singular biggest month ever for DST Marvel pre-orders, but there’s definitely some winners to be found in this new quartet of collectibles!
Headlining the wave is the new Archangel Select figure that I talked about last week. While it’s generally the bigger characters who sell out first with Marvel Select, I can see the size of the wings here and the scarcity of Archangel figures in general carrying this release to a sellout during pre-orders.
On the busts front, while we don’t be getting any new X-Men Animated busts solicited this month (like that sweet Mystique shown at Toy Fair and NYCC), we -are- still getting a new X-Men bust in this batch of pre-orders—just a bit bigger than the Animated ones!
I’m still somewhat surprised by the dearth of X-Men in the Legends in 3D line, with just Magneto (who seems to be selling well) and Wolverine (who is now sold out everywhere) representing in the line. Cyclops will be just the second “usual team” member alongside Logan, and I’d expect this bust to ship out close to the release of the X-Men 97 series and succeed rapidly from a sales perspective. This looks great, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Jim Lee Cyclops Gallery statue solicited a couple months from now to give us even more Cyke goodness.
Speaking of Marvel Gallery, a long-overdue marquee character makes his debut in that line this month: the Marvel Gallery Silver Surfer statue shown at NYCC and Toy Fair this month!
This is somewhat more expansive (and slightly more expensive) than a usual DST Gallery PVC, but I really like what Diamond Select has done here. The full surfboard is present, there’s neat cosmic effects pieces, and the Silver Surfer himself has a lovely shiny (but not chrome) finish. This is a really beautiful piece by DST and a standout in the Marvel Gallery line, I think.
Finally, we come to one of the most unique Skottie Young Marvel Animated statues: Ghost Rider!
Based on the Skottie variant cover to the 2022 Ghost Rider #1, this is one of the bigger and more elaborate Marvel Babies-style mini-statues that Diamond Select Toys has ever done. He’s a couple bucks more expensive than the usual Marvel Animated statues, but the wild style and whole motorcycle make him well worth the extra bucks in my eyes.
All four of these 2024 Marvel collectibles from Diamond Select Toys are available for pre-order now. See anything you want in this wave of solicits, Marvel fans?
