Meg Duffy, the founder of folk-rock band Hand Habits, and Gregory Uhlmann, a guitarist who plays in touring bands like Perfume Genius and Fell Runner in addition to Hand Habits, have formed a new instrumental duo. Their band is called Duffy x Uhlmann and their debut album, Doubles, is due out September 22 via Orindal Records. In their lead single “Braid,” the two guitarists play off one another with a tempered rhythm, showcasing the skill of seasoned veterans. Listen to that new song below.

Doubles is an entirely instrumental album, with Duffy x Uhlmann each playing guitar off of one another. The album was recorded in Los Angeles at a friend’s house, with Lewis Pesacov mixing side A and the duo mixing side B themselves.

Duffy’s most recent Hand Habits releases were the 2021 full-length LP Fun House and this year’s Sugar the Bruise EP. See why we named the former one of “The 50 Best Albums of 2021.”
