Earlier this year, M. Night Shyamalan signed a multi-year first-look directing and producing agreement with Warner Bros., with mysterious thriller Trap up first. Thanks to Warner Bros’ CineEurope show, the first plot details for Shyamalan’s upcoming feature are here.

Deadline reports that “M Night Shyamalan and his daughter Ishana sent a video to talk up their respective projects: her feature directing debut, The Watchers (a ‘gothic fairy tale’) and his Trap (a ‘psychological thriller set at a concert’). The pair said how ‘excited’ they are to have joined the Warner Bros family.”

As a refresher, Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan will be making her feature debut with The Watchers for WB/New Line. M. Night Shyamalan will produce.

Shyamalan and Warner Bros.’ Trap is already dated for theatrical release on August 2, 2024.

The filmmaker described Trap to NME earlier this year, “I have a new idea that I’ve started writing. It’s out in 2024 and it’s very, very exciting. It’s a thriller. It’s very unusual and very new compared to what I’ve been trying to do [recently], but I’m feeling very excited about the story, so much so that I can’t wait to tell it to you guys.”

A thriller that takes place at a concert does sound like a unique setting.

“Where I write and direct is my home,” Shyamalan previously said. “Disney and Universal, where I’ve made most of my films, will always be home and family to me. Warner Bros. has a storied history of cinema. Through its recent experiences, the company has rediscovered its love and appreciation for filmmakers, and the impact of the theatrical experience. We all win when movies succeed in theaters. I believe David Zaslav, Michael De Luca, and Pam Abdy have dedicated themselves to unique filmmakers, and to filling theaters all around the world for years to come.”

On a related note, Trap isn’t the only thriller in the pipeline for Shyamalan. Expect to hear more about upcoming thriller titled Caddo Lake, formerly The Vanishings At Caddo Lake soon, as it recently earned a PG-13 rating for “Some disturbing/bloody images, thematic elements, and brief strong language.”
