Released into theaters last month, Sony’s The Invitation has thus far scared up $25.8 million worldwide, and we’ve learned that it’s next coming to Blu-ray on October 25, 2022.

The upcoming Blu-ray will include the theatrical version and a NEW Unrated version!

The film’s Unrated version is also available on Digital NOW.

On that note, director Jessica M. Thompson recently revealed to Bloody Disgusting that there was an alternate “R” rated cut of the movie, and she promised we’d be seeing it soon.

“The PG 13 version is what’s going to be out in cinemas, but the R version is actually going to be online on the streamers. There’s more prosthetics in that one,” Thompson told Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro as part of an interview conducted ahead of the film’s release.

Thompson continued, “Yeah, a little bit more blood, a little bit more of that, but I’m someone who thinks you lose the tension as soon as you reveal your monster. I feel like the longer you can hold it off, the better. So there’s still that keeping of mystery, but I will say there’s a bit more gore. There’s a little bit more blood. There’s a little more swearing, and the sex scene is a good chunk longer. These are all the fun things we get to do with our R-rated version.”

But yeah, something happens to Emmaline, the great-grandmother, that I think is quite a shock, and Iván Pohárnok’s prosthetics are fantastic,” the director teased.

In the film…

“After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.”
