Players will need to find a Supply Drop in Fortnite as part of a Character Quest. The Supply Drop mechanic has been in Fortnite for several seasons. Upon exploring the map, players will randomly come across a massive blue box on the field. Players can either shoot at it until its HP runs out to open it or get close enough and interact with it. The real challenge will be opening the box without running into another player. Players can often be stuck there opening the box for several seconds, leaving them wide open for an attack. Typically, players avoid this item since the risk is often not worth the loot, but now, players will need to search inside of a Supply Drop to complete a new Character Quest.
Character Quests are a new mechanic introduced this season and are the fastest way for players to level up in Fortnite Season 8. Scattered around the map are a variety of NPCs who will challenge players with five different quests each. Completing these often rewards large amounts of XP toward the Season 8 Battle Pass.
The newest NPC to join the game is Big Mouth, a monstrous shark/human hybrid creature that can be found inside the Pizza Pit restaurant north of Corny Crops. In order to unlock the Supply Drop challenge, players will need to find and speak with Big Mouth and complete the first four of his quests. The full list of Big Mouth’s quests appears below:
- Open two chests in Steel Farm: 30K XP.
- Search an ice machine: 30K XP.
- Open two ammo boxes at Dirty Docks: 30K XP.
- Buy a health item from a Mending Machine: 30K XP.
- Search a supply drop: 30K XP.
The “Search a Supply Drop” challenge is easily the most difficult since it’s a bit random with each game. This is how players can complete this quest.
Where To Find A Supply Drop in Fortnite Season 8
Supply Drops appear completely at random in Fortnite. There is no exact location where one will land. However, the game does have an audio cue of a plane flying by. Following the cue, players can then look at the map to see where the Supply Drop is falling. It’s often that it will land outside of the storm or on the complete opposite side of the map from the player.
The best thing to do to complete this challenge is to find a vehicle and fill it up with gas. Once the Supply Drop marker appears on the map, players can drive to this location to claim it. Players may need to eliminate opponents going for the same drop. They can also build a structure around their character, possibly with Armored Wall Traps to avoid being shot while opening the Supply Drop.
Players can also shoot down Supply Drops to make them fall faster. Once they have opened a Supply Drop, players complete this challenge and earn 30,000 XP. It is a good idea to clear Character Quests quickly, as new characters and challenges are added each week and players may only have five of them active at a time.
Fortnite is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
