The official YouTube channel for EA’s long-dormant Dead Space series has been updated for the first time in a long time, suggesting a new game announcement could be imminent. The horror games haven’t seen a new mainline entry since 2013’s Dead Space 3, despite fans calling for its revival. With recent rumors of a Dead Space reboot, the YouTube channel update is the first solid indication that something could be coming.
The first Dead Space released over a decade ago in 2008. The survival horror game set aboard a huge deep-space mining ship is recognized as one of the best series in the genre, going on to spawn two sequels and a number of spin-offs. The most recent numbered title in the series, 2013’s Dead Space 3, was criticized for taking a more action-focused approach to the series, and EA seemingly showed little interest in continuing the main story. The Dead Space games also include two spin-off titles and a mobile game, each of which failed to make the same splash as the numbered titles in the series. As well as its own games, Dead Space has influenced other horror titles, and is considered by many to be a must-play for horror gamers.

It seems that rumors of Dead Space‘s return could be true, as EA has unexpectedly updated the game’s official YouTube channel. The change was spotted by Twitter user SierraI07 (via Destructoid), who noted that the channel’s avatar had changed from a Dead Space 3 icon to what appears to be the helmet of protagonist Isaac Clarke. While the image itself gives nothing away, it’s worth noting that the YouTube channel has been quiet for many years. The last video upload was the Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC Launch Trailer, uploaded in March 2013. Though the update is a small one, it’s proof that EA hasn’t yet given up on the channel, perhaps suggesting something is on the way.
Rumors of a return to Dead Space have been circulating for some time, with new evidence emerging in recent weeks. Industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed EA is reviving an established IP, which led to speculation the revival could be Dead Space. While EA has yet to confirm the news, there have now been multiple reports that Dead Space is indeed coming back. The YouTube channel update is the first official hint that the rumors could be true, as it seems almost too coincidental for EA to edit the channel after it lying dormant for so many years.
It’s not clear whether the potential Dead Space project will be a new addition to the longstanding series, or if it’s a reboot, remake or remaster of previous games. A recent exchange between industry insiders Xbox Era‘s Nick Baker and Windows Central‘s Jez Corden possibly hinted that EA is working on a remaster of the Dead Space trilogy, which doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility. Earlier this year EA launched the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, consisting of remasters of the series’ core trilogy, which could very well be what’s planned for Dead Space. EA Play Live, a livestream showcase of the publisher’s new and existing games, is scheduled for July 22. While a new Dead Space game is speculative for now, a reveal could happen during the event.
EA Play Live begins with a pre-show starting at 10AM PT/1PM ET, July 22nd, followed by the main showcase.
