One enterprising Redditor has done the math and managed to calculate the Pokémon with the highest max damage in the Pokémon series. The Japanese media franchise has remained consistently popular since its creation in 1995. According to a post by Mx_Toniy_4869, the lowly Shuckle has the potential to do over 500 million damage in Pokémon. However, players are unlikely to encounter a Shuckle dealing half a billion damage in their games, because getting this Pokémon requires a lot of specific items, conditions, and transferring a Shuckle between Pokémon games. The player has to have a level 100 Shuckle, use Mimic to steal the move Ice Ball from a level 1 Noibat, and use it against them. Ice Ball inflicts damage over five turns, with its damage doubling on each consecutive hit unless interrupted, but Ice Ball’s damage is also doubled if the user previously used the move Defense Curl. Both Defense Curl and Mimic can be taught to Shuckle with a Move Tutor in Pokémon games from Generation 3, such as Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon XD.

One problem to overcome, however, is that a player cannot have this powered-up Shuckle face a Noibat, since the Pokémon wasn’t introduced to the series until Generation 6. Thus, to get the Pokémon with the max damage, the player would have to transfer their Shuckle to Pokémon XPokémon YPokémon Omega Ruby, or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire to set up this battle. This would be done after the Move Tutor teaches Shuckle Defense Curl and Mimic, since Move Tutors cannot teach Shuckle these moves in Generation 6 games.

After leveling up Shuckle to level 100 in their Pokémon Generation 6 game of choice, the player will still need very specific conditions to be met in order to get their 500 million damage Pokémon. The post notes optimizing Shuckle’s Ice Ball damage requires the player to find a triple battle, with Shuckle and allies holding specific items, using two Skill Swaps after using Defense Curl and Screech, and having two allied Cherrim’s use Helping Hand on the Shuckle as his Ice Ball is ramping up. But, even with all these specific conditions met, the player would still have to get lucky enough for the fifth hit to result in a critical hit and a max damage roll.

So, although a 500 million damage Pokémon might cause any avid trainer to quake like a Psyduck with a migraine, it’s very unlikely the Pokémon with the max damage will ever actually be seen. Even so, it’s quite funny that in a series like Pokémon that features powerful dragons and demi-gods that can unleash beams of pure energy and rage, the most powerful Pokémon of all might be the little old Shuckle.
