A new behind-the-scenes image from last year’s horror drama Doctor Sleep has been released. Doctor Sleep, directed by Mike Flanagan, is the sequel to The Shining that follows an adult Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor). The movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s hit novel from 2013, both of which were well-received among horror fans. Doctor Sleep even managed to redeem Jack Torrance, something that King absolutely hated about Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Doctor Sleep sees Danny helping a young girl named Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran), who also has the Shining. Together they battle The True Knot, a cult led by Rose the Hat, who kills children to stay immortal. One of their victims was a young boy named Bradley Trevor (aka Baseball Boy), played by Jacob Tremblay. After sensing that Trevor had the Shining, the True Knot kidnaps him following his baseball game. Rose the Hat and the other members of The True Knot torture and murder the young boy to collect his “steam,” which is what keeps them alive.

Now, a new BTS image from the set of Doctor Sleep shows the making of the scene. Intrepid Pictures shared the image on Twitter to celebrate Tremblay’s 14th birthday. The picture looks to have been taken in between takes, with Rebecca Ferguson and Tremblay both covered in blood. The original tweet can be seen below:

Like most Stephen King adaptations, Doctor Sleep had a lot of characters die in horrific ways at the hands of The True Knot. The very first scene of the film featured the cult feasting on a young girl, which set the tone for the rest of the movie. That being said, Tremblay’s death was arguably the most brutal of the entire movie. The True Knot not only abducted and killed a child, but they viciously tortured him before ending his life. The scene would have been disturbing no matter who Warner Bros. cast in the role, but Tremblay’s acting made the scene seem that much more real.

Tremblay has taken on some tough movies as a child actor, including 2017’s Wonder and the Academy Award Winning Room. Tremblay gave another incredible performance in Doctor Sleep, but it’s always entertaining to see actors having fun on set in an otherwise horrifying film. Seeing Tremblay goof around on set while covered in blood may relieve some of the anxiety people experienced while watching his character’s death, but it doesn’t make the scene any less frightening.
