It looks like publisher Electronic Arts isn’t done with Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order series any time soon, according to a recent earnings call. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in November of last year and has already sold over ten million copies, thus proving that despite the backlash EA received over the lootbox-filled release of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 players have been itching for a quality single-player Star Wars video game.

Respawn hasn’t stopped supporting Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order since release, either. To help celebrate Star Wars Day, May the 4th, the company released an all new New Game Plus mode for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as well as additional cosmetics and a “Battle Grid” mode which allows players to create their own in-game challenges in order to test their lightsaber and Force combat skills. Players who were worried EA would forget about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order fans in the future need not fret, thanks to a recent company report.

According to a recent quarterly financial call (thanks, Twinfinite) EA has no plans of dropping the Star Wars Jedi series any time soon. The company’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, spoke about the game’s 10 million players and called it “a first title in an entirely new franchise.” This statement confirms that there will definitely be more Respawn-backed Star Wars Jedi games on the way, and poses some interesting questions about just where this “new franchise” will end up.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

Eagle-eyed players already know that Respawn is working on some sort of sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as Respawn Entertainment posted job listings for their Star Wars division back in December, only a month after the game’s release. However, there is no word yet on any plot details or possible settings for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, and since EA is now calling it a franchise that opens up the possibility for a sequel completely separate of the original’s plot or characters.

Another entry in Star Wars Jedi doesn’t have to follow Cal Kestis. There could be a Star Wars Jedi: Order 66 game which sees players taking on the role of a Jedi fleeing clone troopers on some unknown planet, or a Star Wars Jedi: New Order game where players experience events taking place after the latest movie, Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerBy calling Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order the first in a franchise, Electronic Arts is opening up the possibility to tell all kinds of stories… and hopefully they will be stories that players want to experience as well.
