“Blood Of Ancients: The First Dreamwalk”
The nightmare is finally over for Bly Pharis. No more vampires, spirit warriors, and crazy cops trying to kill her. Yet her life is still in turmoil. With both of her parents dead and no place to go, the “chosen one” is forced to sleep in various truck stops along Route 93.
Overwhelmed with exhaustion, the sleeping high school girl begins to dream as a truck driver eats his overnight meal nearby. Mesopotamian — 2700 BC, Bly awakes next to her stuffed animal, Mr. Miggs. Normally a small toy monkey, Miggs has now grown to human-sized proportions. And he can talk! What?! How? Never mind that, why is Bly in one of her history teacher’s stories?
Miss Lopez really undersold this place. The architecture. The bustling streets. Those outfits! Why is Bly’s talking monkey toy showing her all this? Over the next few hours, the “Scarlet Redeemer” will learn the true origins of humanity’s greatest threat, vampires.
Review
A new chapter for the Scarlet Redeemer has begun, but can Bly Pharis handle the stress? I love the overall historical elements of this entire issue. The series creators, Tom Jones and Keith Wilson, have exceeded beyond any expectations with their Sumerian research. King Q’lgemish has survived for 5,000 years to wage war on vampires and the sinister Clave. What more could you ask for?
I also have to call out the Stephen King and Dark Shadows references. Sick movie and TV references, bro! This is one killer book that any Vampire fan will enjoy. I give issue five of Scarlett a five out of five-star rating. Man, that’s a lot of fives.
