Stephen King isn’t much of a hater. One of the things I respect most about the acclaimed horror writer is the regularity with which he uses his platform to spotlight lesser-known authors and filmmakers, singing their praises online and in his many written works. He loves Bosch, The Rental, and even kind of dug Night Swim. He less regularly shares his negative opinions, though when he does, they’re loud and clear. After all, we all know how he feels about Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. What about the horror movie he hates most? Well, it’s streaming for free now, so you can check the vulgar, schlock classic out for yourself.

The official synopsis for Blood Feast, Stephen King’s most-hated horror movie, reads, “An Egyptian caterer kills various women in suburban Miami to use their body parts to revive a dormant Egyptian goddess while an inept police detective tries to track him down.” Honestly, the movie sounds kind of metal, so I had to check it out for myself to see whether it really warranted all the hate. Moviegoing is so subjective, of course, so what one person hates, another is poised to love.

Well, Blood Feast is streaming free on Fawesome, and clocking in at just over an hour, I’m happy to report that I didn’t hate it. I didn’t love it, either. It’s cheap, exploitative, nasty, and incredibly silly. Yet, those are paradoxically both strengths and weaknesses. Blood Feast is camp, and through that lens, I reckon Stephen King might feel a little differently were he to give the film another shot. You can check out his tweet about Blood Feast below:

While you’re there, be certain to read through the replies. Several other titles made the cut the worst horror movie ever made. I’m talking Jaws: The Revenge, Book of Shadows, Leprechaun, and more. Would it surprise you to hear that I don’t think any of those are the worst, and that Book of Shadows is actually one of my favorite movies? There’s no accounting for taste, when it comes to me, so take it or leave it.

With Blood Feast streaming free now, be certain to check it out. Do you agree with Stephen King? Do you disagree with him? Did he conveniently forget The Langoliers exists, because I sure didn’t. Let me know your thoughts over on Twitter and Instagram.
