Netflix’s upcoming thriller Apex, described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, will star Charlize Theron. Per Deadline, Theron will be joined by actor Taron Egerton in the intense thriller.

Baltasar Kormákur (Touch) is set to direct Apex.

Written by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge” television series), the film “follows a rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.” Robbins’ spec script was selected as part of 2021’s The Black List, an annual buzzy compendium of the year’s most-liked unproduced Hollywood screenplays.

The spec script logline for Apex: “When an adrenaline junkie sets out to conquer a menacing river, she discovers that nature isn’t the only thing out for blood. In other words, one woman finds herself stalked by an Apex predator, only this time of the human variety. And it sounds like it’ll be very intense.

“Netflix execs were so blown away by the script that they bought with only the producers on board. When it came to an actor and director, Theron and Kormákur were their first choices, and in another rare case both committed after reading the script, Deadline previously reported.

Taron Egerton broke out with Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation The Kingsman: The Secret Service and is set to appear in Jaume Collet-Serra’s Netflix thriller Carry-On, arriving next month on the streaming service.

Theron will produce the project along with Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix via their newly launched media company, as well as Kormákur through his RVK productions; Ian Bryce; and Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready via through Chernin Entertainment.
