This year there were many hyped-up horror movies that did pretty well at the box office. There was the over-soaked saturation of Longlegs, the social media takeover of Speak No Evil, and constant word-of-mouth about how Terrifier 3 made people physically ill at the theater.

Thanks to the buildup, these movies were on everyone’s radar, and horror fans flocked to the theater to see them. Terrifier 3 was especially profitable in that space.

But what about upcoming movies that aren’t getting much attention? Some of these films have pretty big names behind them.

We thought we’d start the hype early by featuring four titles that will surely pique your interest.

Companion (January 31, 2025)

Remember Barbarian? That off-the-rails 2022 horror movie starring Justin Long and Bill Skarsgård? The writer/director of that film, Zach Cregger was going to make Companion his directorial follow-up. He didn’t, instead that duty would go to Drew Hancock, although Cregger takes a producing credit. Looking at the teaser for this film it seems Cregger would have been a good fit behind the camera — it looks insane.

Plot details don’t reveal much, but we found a brief synopsis at Hollywood.com.

“This upcoming movie stars Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher. Set in a dystopian future, the story revolves around their toxic relationship.  Fans of both actors will be thrilled to see them in roles that push their boundaries and showcase their versatility. The film also features an exciting lineup of rising stars, including Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend.”

The Woman in the Yard (March 28, 2025)

Are you ready for another Jaume Collet-Serra horror movie? He directed some greats over the past 20 years, including, House of Wax (2005), Orphan (2009), and The Shallows (2016).

Collet-Serra‘s last film was Black Adam, which didn’t do him justice, not because it was bad, but because it got some bad press by its star Dwayne Johnson. Furthermore, the whole cinematic superhero movie space has reached audience fatigue. But his next film The Woman in the Yard looks to be bringing him back to form and we can’t wait to see what he does with it.

Logline: “When a dangerous stranger shows up at the front door, a depressed person must confront their own past in order to protect their two children.”

Wildwood (Coming Soon)

The movie Coraline had a great summer this year. It was re-released in theaters and did pretty well. The animation studio behind that film, Laika, is also behind Wildwood, their sixth stop-motion feature.

Wildwood

Logline: “The adventures of Prue McKeel as she sets off to the forests outside Portland to find her kidnapped brother.”

Weapons (January 16, 2026)

Speaking of Barbarian’s Zach Creggor, Weapons is his directorial follow-up to that film. He is such a hot property that his spec for Weapons ignited a bidding war among NetflixNew Line CinemaTriStar Pictures, and Universal Pictures. New Line snagged it for a hefty $38 million. Josh Brolin replaced an over-booked Pedro Pascal as the lead in the film and principal photography was completed in July.

Logline: An interrelated, multistory horror epic about the disappearance of high school students in a small town.
