Grave Robbing For Morons

If you’re looking for something chilling and quick to watch on this lovely Halloween, look no further than Josh Folan‘s chilling found footage short Grave Robbing For Morons II: Dead by Dawn. Yes, the title may make you giggle, but between the analog aesthetic and the matter-of-fact tone, there’s something incredibly unsettling about the short film. Plus, it’s inspired by another YouTube curiosity, released over a decade ago.

The short synopsis reads:

In 1990-ish, some morons made a YouTube video before there was YouTube. It was a grave-robbing how-to. Kinda. After 30-plus years of silence, Tone is back in 2024 with a message for all you morons out there…

Folan said of the project:

I stumbled across the original Grave Robbing For Morons video earlier this year and I was so entertained and enthralled by it that I fell into a rabbit hole for days trying to hunt down more about it, whether it was legitimate, what happened to Anthony, etc. Finding out it was one of perhaps the last unsolved internet mysteries left, given how intrusive our current internet era can be with privacy, I needed to find closure of some kind. This “update” to the story is my ode to creating that for myself and all the other ‘morons’ out there that are fascinated by this found footage.

Folan did the majority of the work on this production, serving as writer, director, cinematographer, editor, and producer. He also stars in the film with Jamisin Matthews. Brian Crimmins did the sound design and mix, with Matt Willits producing alongside Folan.
