In 20212, writer and director Kerry Bellessa released his micro-budget found footage movie Amber Alert where a group of friends follows a car they suspect is part of an active Amber Alert. Now, over a decade later, he’s bringing that narrative back to life, but this time with a bigger scope and sleeker cinematography thanks to a more traditional narrative. Plus, it’s supported by a star-studded cast featuring Hayden Panettiere and Tyler James Williams.

In the film:

An ordinary rideshare becomes a high-stakes game of cat and mouse when Jaq (Hayden Panettiere) and Shane (Tyler James Williams) receive an alert of a child abduction on their phones. Quickly realizing they are behind a car that matches the description of the kidnappers, Jaq and Shane desperately race against time to save the child’s life.

We spoke with Bellessa about turning this into a traditional narrative film, what inspired the initial idea, and the difficulties that come with filming in cars.
