A bit of bad news is coming out of Hollywood tonight. Don Mancini’s Chucky the TV series has been cancelled on SyFy after what some might consider to be a successful run.

Often times a network won’t give an advance warning to the crew if they decide to cancel a show. It’s not known if that’s the case here, but in a statement Mancini seems surprised

“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,” Mancini said. “I’d like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back.”

Chucky had fans; a lot of them, including critics who found the show to be well-written and timely. It followed the famous possessed doll voiced by Brad Dourif, as he slashed his way through a suburban town.

Throughout its three seasons it never dipped below 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its latest season ranking a 100%.

With those types of percentages and its popularity among fans we can probably bet another network or streaming entity will pick it up.

Until then, we’ll see Chucky at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal.
