There’s a big spotlight on Nintendo right now, as the company is on the verge of unveiling their next console. So, people are paying close attention to just about everything that Nintendo is doing. For example, there’s something that Nintendo has filed to the Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, earlier this weekend.

The company has filed for a CLO-001 model with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor. It isn’t tagged with any gaming-related terms, but it is tagged as a “wireless device”. The 001 code number also implies to be a completely new product line, as Nintendo has already used the 001 code number for the Switch (HAC-001) and the Nintendo DS (NTR-001). The device also apparently has no battery, no body-worn accessories, and you must have it plugged in to operate it. It is mentioned that this device can be powered by USB-C.

So, what is this device? Well, it’s hard to say. Some theories are that it’s related to Super Nintendo World. Another theory is that it is some kind of gesture control interface. It could also be related to AR features. It is even suggested that it might be related to things that Nintendo tried more than a decade ago, such as the company’s “Quality of Life” sleep tracking initative. Whatever it is, it’s going to get a lot of attention until Nintendo finally reveals their next generation hardware.
