It’s Friday the 13th and you know what means: a bunch of new horror movies have been unleashed today to make us forget that it’s been 15 YEARS since we last saw Jason Voorhees.

First up, In a Violent Nature is the next best thing to a new Friday the 13th movie, a unique slasher told from the perspective of the Jason-like killer. It’s now streaming on Shudder.
In the film, “When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back – along with anyone in his way.”
Chris Nash wrote and directed In a Violent Nature. Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor star in the slasher film.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her Sundance review for Bloody Disgusting, “In a Violent Nature may offer slasher thrills and a delightfully gory rampage across the wilderness, but Nash’s approach captures the carnage through ambient realism. It results in a fascinating arthouse horror experiment that plays more like a minimalist slice-of-life feature with a grim twist.”
After failing to make a splash at the box office just a few weeks ago, Lionsgate’s The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård (IT) has been released on PVOD at home beginning today.
The Crow is now available to buy for $24.99 and to rent for $19.99 (for a 48-hour period) on participating digital platforms from which movies are purchased.
Based on the iconic graphic novel, The Crow tells the dark love story of Eric and Shelly, and the lengths one will go to for someone they love. Directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), The Crow stars Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs (award-winning singer-songwriter), and Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener).
“Soulmates Eric (Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Will Schneider wrote the script, with the new movie of course based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel that spawned a previous film franchise.
Writer/Director Mary Dauterman’s feature directorial debut, Booger, promises to take audiences on a grossly sweet journey. It’s now available on VOD outlets from Dark Sky Films.
“After Booger, her dead friend’s cat runs away, Anna (Grace Glowicki) grows desperate to find him, ignoring the fact that her life (and body) are totally falling apart. A psychedelic, grotesque, and unexpectedly funny film about grief and the indescribable deepness of female friendships, Booger offers a shocking mix of genres with confidence and profound emotional impact.”
“Booger is a disgusting comedy about grief. Or a body horror that’s funny and sad. Or a tragedy that makes you laugh and squirm,” says writer/director Dauterman on her film. “It’s the nuanced story I wanted to tell about the joys of friendship, the pain of loss, and the dizzying search back to your center after a crisis.”
Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Marcia DeBonis (Sometimes I Think About Dying, 13 Going on 30), Sofia Dobrushin (WeCrashed), and cult film and horror favorite Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream) star alongside Glowicki.
The bone-chilling Danish horror movie Speak No Evil gets a remake here in the States courtesy of Blumhouse and Universal, and it’s now playing exclusively in movie theaters.
James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Eden Lake) is directing Speak No Evil for Blumhouse and Universal, with Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Happiest Season) and James McAvoy (Split, Glass) set to star. Scoot McNairy (Argo) will also star.
In the remake, “When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.”
James Watkins also wrote the script for the Speak No Evil remake.
Directed by Christian Tafdrup, the original Speak No Evil was selected as one of Bloody Disgusting’s 12 Best International Horror Movies of 2022. Daniel Kurland raved about the highly distressing Danish nightmare, “This claustrophobic character study eerily examines the nature of evil and the chilling realization that there doesn’t always need to be a reason for wickedness. Speak No Evil feels like the twisted Danish cousin to Barbarian and every tense moment of silence feels like it could evolve into a totally different type of horror.”
The director and star of the better-than-expected Till Death (2021) are back together again for Subservience, with Megan Fox starring as a lifelike artificially intelligent android.
Director S.K. Dale’s AI thriller, which looks like a mix between thriller Fatal Attraction and horror movie M3GAN, is now available on VOD outlets from XYZ Films.

The first title to launch the Weekly World News IP-driven studio slate of movie projects is The Zombie Wedding, and Freestyle Digital Media brings it to VOD outlets today.
The Zombie Wedding tells the story of what happens when a young New Jersey couple decides to go through with their dream wedding – during the Zombie Apocalypse. Unfortunately, the bride is a human, and the groom is a zombie. Both families are fearful, but the humans’ behavior is downright beastly. When the Zombies become brain-deprived, the ceremony takes a turn for the weird. Weekly World News reporters cover this wild, wacky wedding – while trying to get out alive!

Brainstorm Media has released writer/director Sheldon Wilson‘s high-concept sci-fi feature Believer today, the film now available on VOD outlets as well as in select theaters.
In Believer, “A young writer is attacked by a notorious cult leader and mass murderer, a man who exerts inexplicable control over his followers. When she claims no memory of the attack, her family begins to question her motives.”
Lauren Lee Smith, Ella Ballentine, Peter Mooney, Martin Roach, Ilan O’Driscoll, Jonathan Potts, and Kris Holden-Ried star.
Sheldon previously helmed horror films Night Class, Shallow Ground, Screamers: The Hunting, Shark Killer, The Unspoken. Jonathan Soon-Shiong produces Believer.
The third film in the ‘Fresh Hell Presents’ trilogy from Cranked Up Films – following in the wake of The Exorcism of Saint Patrick and Wolves Against the World – is titled Dead Teenagers.
The meta slasher movie is now available on VOD outlets.
In the film, “Five teenagers are stalked by a killer in the woods. But when the killer accidentally dies, the kids discover they cannot leave until they’ve fulfilled the script of the movie they’re trapped in. They must decide who among them lives and dies.”
Dead Teenagers is Written and Directed by Quinn Armstrong.
