“Terror Beneath The Earth!”

A new terror stalks the back alleyways of Los Angeles, California. With the first night of the full  moon, dozens of reports begin flooding the police tip lines. With no arrests, two LAPD detectives are now actively investigating the reports of a real-life werewolf roaming in the Century City neighborhood.

As if things couldn’t be worse for Jack Russell, a new threat has been secretly hunting him for his savage abilities. Down inside the city’s sewer system, a legion of the lost and abandoned are being controlled by a hypnotic wave of hypnotic sounds. The strange voices all call out in unison “Capture the werewolf creature. Capture Jack Russell!”

Will Jack Russell uncover the truth about his mother’s death? Can his stepfather, Philip, deny Jack his family fortune? Who is behind the secret organization known as the “Committee”? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

The series is almost ten issues in and writer Gerry Conway still seems to be struggling to feel out the character and his surroundings. None of the mainstream Marvel supervillains have shown up in this series yet, but Jack is still just a minor character in the grand scheme of things. So, if you are looking to start collecting Werewolf By Night, prepare yourself for a slow burn.

Tom Sutton has taken over as the main artist as of issue #8. I do prefer Mike Ploog for this title, but Tom is a good replacement. All in all, this is a good start for the next story arc, but it doesn’t seem very inspiring. I’m giving issue #9 of Werewolf By Night three out of five stars. If I remember correctly, in the next issue, Sarnak’s minions attack the Los Angeles area Hippies. I can’t wait!
