During Covid lockdown, Guillermo del Toro tweeted a prompt asking: “What are you reading? What are you watching? What are you listening to? And How many days have you been indoors?”

The Crimson Peak director shared that he had been utilizing lockdown to revisit the Coen brothers’ filmography. His post got plenty of traction and Knives Out director Rian Johnson even responded with a quote from the 2001 Coen brothers film The Man Who Wasn’t There. In response, del Toro reciprocated Johnson’s enthusiasm for the film. But he subsequently revealed there’s a Coen brothers picture he holds in even higher regard.

Del Toro’s reply reads: “That is one of my top 3 they’ve made. But, Jesus, No Country for Old Men gets better every damn time. It may be in my top 3 of all time now.”

For anyone unfamiliar, the setup goes like this: While out hunting, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) finds the grisly aftermath of a drug deal. Though he knows better, he cannot resist the cash left behind and takes it with him. The hunter becomes the hunted when a merciless killer named Chigurh (Javier Bardem) picks up his trail. Also looking for Moss is Sheriff Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), an aging lawman who reflects on a changing world and a dark secret of his own, as he tries to find and protect Moss.
