Taiwanese K-pop idol Tzuyu of girl group TWICE has made her solo debut with the single ‘Run Away’, from her first mini-album ‘abouTZU’.

Speaking about the launch of her solo career at a recent press showcase, TWICE’s Tzuyu said that the project is a way for her to “present a more mature, intense side of myself beyond the bright and sweet image everyone is familiar with”, per The Korea Times.

Her new mini-album ‘abouTZU’ is led by the single ‘Run Away’, which features lyrics written by JYP Entertainment founder and namesake J. Y. Park. The project also includes the album cuts ‘Heartbreak in Heaven’ and ‘Lazy Baby’, featuring rappers Peniel of BtoB and pH-1, respectively.

At the event, Tzuyu revealed that fell in love with ‘Run Away’ from the first time she heard it. “The melody was catchy, and the synth bass sound was really captivating,” she said. “At first, I was worried about whether I could pull it off, but I felt I could offer fans something fresh.”

Tzuyu is the third member of TWICE to go solo. Bandmate Nayeon was the first, releasing the mini-album ‘IM NAYEON’ with the single ‘POP!’ in 2022. The second was Jihyo, who released the project ‘ZONE’ and the single ‘Killin’ Me Good’ last year.

Back in June, Nayeon returned with her sophomore mini-album, titled ‘Na’, led by the single ‘ABCD’. In an interview with NME, the K-pop star opened up about how, nearly a decade into her music career, she has found “enough space to find joy and fun in my profession”.

In other TWICE news, JYP Entertainment recently announced its intention to pursue strong legal action against any creators of deepfake videos depicting members of TWICE and any of its artists.
