Quentin Tarantino has enjoyed an impressive career since his arrival on the filmmaking scene in the early ‘90s. In the years since he has amassed an impressive arsenal of awards to show for his efforts.

During his formative days in Hollywood, Tarantino saw two films that greatly impacted him. The pictures proved to the director that he was onto something and that there just might be an audience for his output. One of those films is Abel Ferrara’s King of New York.

In a conversation with The Rewatchables podcast, Tarantino touched on why he connected with the film, saying: “Right before I did [Reservoir Dogs], two movies came out that broke that mold and actually pointed the way that we were gonna go in the ’90s. One was King of New York, and the other was La Femme Nikita. And when they came out, it was just like, ‘Yes, this is where it’s at.’”

After sharing with the hosts that watching King of New York for the first time was a pivotal moment in his filmmaking career, Tarantino went on to call the picture an “absolute cinematic masterpiece”.
