Kesha unknowingly used a “real butcher knife” for her performance of ‘Backstabber’ at Lollapalooza 2024.

The pop singer played her set at the Chicago branch of the festival yesterday (August 1), where she played hits such as ‘TiK ToK’ and ‘We R Who We R’.

However, Kesha also put on a theatrical performance of ‘Backstabber’ from her 2010 debut ‘Animals’, where the singer brandished a large knife as she sang.

Though many believed the knife to be fake, Kesha took to X/Twitter today to reveal this wasn’t the case.

“sooooo apparently the prop knife went missing and they replaced it with a real butcher knife stolen from the kitchen,” she wrote. “and i didn’t know. till now. so watch that again….”

Fans also believed Kesha dissed Katy Perry in that same ‘Backstabber’ performance. The song’s bridge features the line “Katie’s to my left, rippin’ my style”. However, during the performance, Kesha only sings the first part before expressing disgust on her face.

Given that Kesha hasn’t been quiet about Perry’s recent work with Dr Luke, who she accused of emotional abuse and sexual assault in a decade-long lawsuit, fans believed it was a jab at the ‘Woman’s World’ singer.

Last week, Kesha opened up about her “beautiful” upcoming album, and explained how it feels like the start of a new chapter.

“This is the first album I’m making where I’m 100 per cent in control of everything. It feels like it’s my first album,” Kesha told Paper. “It feels divine, it feels like it stands for a lot.

“It’s really beautiful, and I cannot wait to share it. It’s maybe the most beautiful time of my entire life! I am so excited, I got to work with the people I did and capture this moment in time, and put it onto something other people can listen to.”
