Last year’s Paramount Scares Vol. 1 box set contained some great films presented in 4K. Included in that collection were: Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Pet Sematary (1989), Smile (2022), Crawl (2019), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). It was a popular purchase among horror fans.

This week, just in time for Halloween the studio has released news of Volume 2 which you can pre-order now ahead of its October 1 release date. It contains one less movie and a weird pairing of films from their otherwise extensive library.

The new collection contains Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), Breakdown (1997), World War Z (2013) and Orphan: First Kill (2022).

Paramount Scares Vol. 2

An Old And New Classic

Although the entire collection contains some great films, two stick out the most. First, there is Friday the 13th Part 2 which is ranked on par to, or even better than its original in the realm of sequels. On that same note, Orphan: First Kill has become one of Paramount’s well-received sequels. But that film was released on its streaming service, Paramount+, the same day as its theatrical release and you can even stream it now if you want to.

The other two films, World War Z and Breakdown are interesting choices for this collection. World War Z seems to keep with the horror theme while Breakdown feels more like a mystery/thriller than a monster movie. Still, Kurt Russell fans will appreciate seeing him in 4K.

What You Get Inside

Just like last year’s boxed set, this one is loaded with collectibles including an exclusive poster, exclusive slipcovers, a collector’s issue of Fangoria Magazine: Friday the 13th Part 2 edition, some iron-on patches, and a sticker and pin set.

Currently, this collection is available for pre-order at $69.99. It releases on October 1 and seems like it would make a great addition to the library of any devout physical media collector.
