In 2009, The Collector became a fan favorite in the slasher movie genre. It was kind of like Saw with a home invasion twist. Three years later the sequel The Collection was released and it fared better with critics but stayed about the same with fans.

In 2019 it was announced that a third film, The Collected, was in production, and as a lot of films do it was shot out of order with the ending being completed first. But that’s all that was done and we haven’t heard any updates. Until now.

The Collector

Genre publication JoBlo reports the director of all three films, Marcus Dunstan, is finally getting ready to finish the third. There were some rights issues. Dunstan exclusively told The Direct on Wednesday, that’s all been resolved.

“As of about four days ago, the legal elements holding it back were all alleviated. And it is coming back, I can tell you. Shout it loud and proud: The Collector is coming back. It is free. It is going to be a barreling freight train for your mind of fear. Yes, we can do it right!“

However, we are pumping the brakes on the news for right now. Dunstan and co-writer Patrick Melton say they aren’t rushing it.

“We’re not bringing it back until it’s something that we feel is the best one,” said Dunstan. “And that we feel is in honor of the time we’ve been waiting because we haven’t been waiting on the bench just staring at the sky. We’ve been conceiving and concocting. Yeah, here it comes. And we want to honor this opportunity with something great.”

But what about that footage that was already shot for The Collected? It’s not yet clear if that will be used in the third film.
