Thriller

A violent Jason Statham-fronted action thriller is climbing the Prime Video charts, currently claiming the #2 spot. It’s not a film that gets everything right. But the feature in question is a welcome distraction that is sure to entertain. I’m talking about the John Wick-esque tale of righteous retribution The Beekeeper.

If you’re unfamiliar with the setup for this action thriller, the plot crunch goes like this:

One man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after it’s revealed he’s a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.

I checked the film out a while back and enjoyed it for the most part. The picture gets a bit redundant in places, and the ending is more than a little campy. Not to mention, the proceedings border on completely ridiculous for the bulk of the film’s runtime. But sometimes a film like this hits the spot. If you can look past some of the film’s shortcomings, there’s plenty to appreciate. The fight choreography is top-notch, the action unfolds at a breakneck pace, and Jason Statham is truly in his element here. All in all, The Beekeeper is quality popcorn entertainment; it’s an action-packed thriller that executes fairly effectively on a proven formula while delivering wall-to-wall action. If The Beekeeper sounds like your cup of tea and you subscribe to Prime Video, you may want to give this one a look.

In addition to Statham in the lead role, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons star in the film. The picture is helmed by Suicide Squad director David Ayer. Kurt Wimmer penned the screenplay.

That’s all we’ve got for you, for the time being. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on which films are charting on your favorite streaming platforms. Also, make sure to follow @DreadCentral on Twitter so you never miss out on one of our updates.
