“Blood Hunt – Part 02”
Sometimes the best of us are left behind to protect the ones we love. The Sanctum Santorum, inner chambers, Wong watches over the magically bound vampire who once was Steven Strange. This form of the Sorcerer Supreme is nothing more than a mere husk now, a beast with no living soul. Clea had separated her husband from this cursed body moments after Blade had betrayed them. Now only feral rage drives the mind of the thing suspended in front of Wong, its hunger for blood growing with each passing minute.
As Wong’s thoughts wander to battles and tasks that he should be performing in the absence of the others, a ghostly presence watches him in earnest from a dark corner. Victor Strange, recently freed from the Crypt of Shadows, has laid claim to the body of his older brother. The only question is how he can get close enough to take possession of his prize. What, if anything, can his stories tell him about distraction?
The vampiric ghost of Victor Strange wanders off toward an unused section of the Santorum to meditate. There he finds a dark presence waiting to befriend him. Who is this being that claims both friendship and fatherhood in one subtle phrase? It matters little to an insane man who has been imprisoned for decades on the wrong side of a mirror.
Reviewer Notes
Free Bats! Free Bats now! It looks like we might get our wish as the ghost basset finds new allies inside the Crypt of Shadows. In other news, for some reason, Wong can’t or won’t use his magic to secure the vampire formerly known as Doctor Strange. I find this very odd indeed. I bet the movie version of Wong could do it. Anybody with me?
This was an interesting issue, but way too short – as most Marvel comic books have become under C.B. Cebulski management. Pascal Ferry is becoming one of my favorite modern Marvel artists. I just wish Jed McKay would write him more content to illustrate. Is Jed limited by what he can write due to the Blood Hunt event? I don’t know for sure. I’m limiting my review of issue 16 of Doctor Strange to three out of five stars.
