Fantastic Four – Volume 07 Issue 21

My Rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

“To Curse The Darkness!”

Museum of Modern Art, Midtown Manhattan, Reed and Alicia had just finished an enjoyable day experiencing famous paintings reproduced for the visually impaired in high definition 3-D format. As a blind woman, it was Alicia’s first chance to study the old masterworks by such great artists as Vincent Van Gogh. While they walked, the two were in heavy conversation over Reed Richards’ scientific analysis of the exhibits. That quickly ended, however, after they both realized the sun had disappeared from the sky above.

Full-blown panic erupted through the streets when New Yorkers began screaming in terror at the horde of bodies rushing  toward them at supernatural speed. This would be the first wave of vampires Mister Fantastic would have to battle that day. He would not be alone in this task. The entire globe had just been turned into a living nightmare, driven by the blood of the living!

Reviewer Notes

Is there anyone else out there reading Fantastic Four #21 who didn’t want to turn to page five? Reed and Alicia were having such a great time that I didn’t want to see the monsters coming on the next page. This was a badass reveal, to say the least, as Ryan North pulls the unprepared Fantastic Four into the Blood Hunt event.

I loved the killer vampire artwork by Ivan Fiorelli, but Ryan’s decision making was a little questionable here. Reed Richards is supposed to be one of the smartest men on the planet, but he chose to hold up in a very impractical location. What about the Baxter Building? It had to be a closer option.

If you love horror comics and stories like 30 Days Of Night you will enjoy this one. I don’t plan on buying all 60 issues of Marvel’s Blood Hunt crossover event, but I’m glad I have this one. I give this issue five 3-D printed stars out of five.
