“The Frumpy Duckling”
In the sleepy medieval village of Riverdale, all of the squires chased after the fairest ducklings in the land. Betty and Veronica, to be more precise. Their beauty could enchant men to perform unthinkable acts of courtship and bravado. Some would say the pretty little ducklings took advantage of their female prowess, but thou should hate the player, and not the game.
Then, one sunny morning, an even more seductive duck wandered into the village square. Cassie Cloud, a fair maiden with extravagant bone structure and outfits that would put Queen Hermione to shame. Now, with all the young squire’s turning their heads towards a new conquest, the village ducklings declared “it shall beeth on, liketh Donkey Kong!”
“Archie’s Fables”
Once upon a time there was a curious little girl named Bett… uh, Goldilocks. This cute blond was not as curious as she was outright nosy. An this is the story of how one snoop got what was coming to her, and then some.
“What’s The Story?”
When five silly teenagers play around inside of an abandoned theme park, magical moments can be made. Li…ter…ally. This is the tale of one boy who accidentally transformed his hometown into a children’s book extravaganza ruled by a Jughead doppelganger. Look out damsels, Prince Charming is on the prowl!
Can true love really be found in a field of frogs? Will Dilto…uh, Pinocchio convince Rapunzel to compete in a round of Scrabble? How far down the beanstalk must a man go before he kisses a witch?

Fun, fun, fun! Every once in a while, I will buy a copy of an Archie comic and read it to break the monotony. I will admit up front, I’m no expert on Archie Comics or the vast array of characters they have to offer. However, I do enjoy these themed specials, and Betty and Veronica: Friends Forever – Fairy Tales has to be one of the more entertaining ones I’ve read.
I don’t know if the nursery rhyme aspect sells the comedy here, or just the fact that the characters alway play themselves no matter what time or dimensions they end up in. I mean, come on. Who doesn’t want to see a medieval Archie kiss a magical Midge frog? This stuff writes itself.
I’m giving this fantasy anthology a five out of five stars. If you’re a fan of Archie, this one follows the standard running formula. Two girls fight over one boy. One boy doesn’t grasp the concept of female empowerment. Hamburgers are eaten. Rinse and repeat within a Mother Goose menagerie.
