It’s that time of the month once again: as per usual, Diamond Select Toys has several all-new Marvel collectibles they’re debuting and immediately opening for pre-orders. There’s no Marvel Select or Marvel Gallery figure this month (a rarity), but we do get an all-new trio of resin sculptures: the Marvel Animated Deadpool Jumping statue and Moon Knight/Iron Spider mini busts are now up for order!
Deadpool has actually appeared not once, but twice previously in the Skottie Young Marvel Babies-inspired line of mini statues. Deadpool appeared in the first year of the line in 2016 as a sort of stuffed animal plush version of himself crumpled over, and then again in a Charlie Brown-inspired booth later on in 2019.
Both previous Deadpool Animated statues were cute, but neither fit in exceptionally well with the rest of the expansive DST lineup.
Luckily, it looks like the third time is going to be the charm for Skottie Young’s Wade Wilson, as the just-revealed “Jumping Deadpool” is what many fans wanted all along—a plain Deadpool in an action pose in Skottie’s beloved style.
Rendered jumping in mid-air (with a clear support rod) with finger pointing and katana sword in one hand, this is instantly my favorite Skottie Young Deadpool statue. Last month’s Spider-Man is the definitive Marvel Babies version of Spidey that I was waiting for, and I feel similarly about this month’s Deadpool. Good work, Diamond Select Toys.
DST is also expanding their mini bust ranges this month with a new entry each for their comic book and MCU movie lines. For the comics we get a Moon Knight mini bust, while on the films side is Iron Spider Spider-Man.
I’m always game for a good sculpture of either of these characters, but neither of these pieces is really capturing my imagination this time out. While I’m sure there’s valid source material utilized in the design of each, the placement of the arms look awkward to me and I think both of these poses would have worked better for full-figure statues.
I’m usually a total sucker for Moon Knight statues and busts, but I feel fully satisfied with last year’s Legends in 3D Moon Knight 1:2 scale bust that DST released, so I’m just not feeling a need for their newest take on Marc Spector.
Given the $120 MSRP on these busts, I really need to feel great about how they look in order for them to earn my dollars, and I just don’t feel that way about this Moon Knight or Spidey. I much prefer comic-styled Iron Spider personally, which also doesn’t help Diamond Select’s case here for me specifically.
The Marvel Animated Deadpool statue and Iron Spider/Moon Knight busts are now available for pre-order and arriving in early 2025. These are all numbered limited editions of 1000 (Iron Spider) to 3000 (Deadpool), so it’s technically possible (but unlikely) they could sell out as pre-orders.
What do you think of DST’s latest Marvel collectibles trifecta? Does anything in their June 2024 solicitations catch your attention (or your wallet)?
