Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! – Volume 01 Issue 01

My Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

“Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!”

Reporter Kate Marsden has come to the Amazon rainforest looking for the man who almost killed her. Darwin Collier, a murder of women, has escaped from the law on many occasions. This time, however, he’s not the only killer stalking the small river-front town inside Peru. Kat Marsden must now investigate two separate serial killers before her editor kills the story!

Will Kate be able to bring the American serial killer to justice? Why are the Peruvian townsfolk stealing corpses from their local coroner’s office? What is the legend of the Creature from the Black Lagoon? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

This is one of the new series I’ve been anxious to get as I’m a huge fan of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. He is no doubt my favorite of the Universal Monsters. I remember my mom letting me watch all of the Universal Monster movies when they aired on television back in the 1970s. The St. Louis area had some awesome tv stations back then, and I loved every minute of it.

Unfortunately, we don’t get much monster time in issue one of the “Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!”. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a more action based issue two. Will writer Dan Watters work in elements of the “Shape of Water” version of the creature? That would be a nice touch. I give this introductory issue of Image Comics’ nee series three out of five stars.
