“Thrice Marked For Death! – Part 04 Sacrifice”
Possessed! The ghastly wraiths freed by Conan’s own hands did not emerge from Tarim’s Touch unpurposed. These entities were born of ancient magic. Thulsa Doom was their master, and as such, upon their invasion into Conan’s mind, he became a puppet of the necromancer by proxy.
Why had the wraiths possessed each and every member of the Gloryhounds in progression? The Cimmerian had no understanding until now. Deep in his memories, three voices spoke in unison – “The sword! Where was the SWORD!” Conan understood as the images of Bêlit and her Kushite pirates flooded his thoughts. The antique half-sword, born as a spear blade, wielded by a powerful Pict Chieftain in days past, and slayer of demonic forces born within dreaded black stone had been sheathed at Conan’s side for until recently. But what of the artifact now? Thulsa Doom’s guardians began a deeper query. They must retrieve the steel at all costs!
What has become of the ancient weapon favored by the Cimmerian all those many years? Will the memories of Bêlit be key to unlocking Conan’s innermost secrets? Has Thulsa Doom discovered a path back to the world of the living? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Now, this is the age of high adventure! No man, woman, or child is spared Conan’s blade in this latest issue by Titan Comics. The blood, the guts, the gore, oh how wonderful it shall be. Parents – be good parents and keep these books away from your small children. There is a Mature Audience label on the cover for a reason.
I think this issue has to be my favorite in the series so far. With Thulsa Doom back in play, you know things will be epic. Speaking of epic, we get 0art six of Jeffrey Shanks’ editorial on Robert E. Howard, which covers his use of black stone obsidian within his writings, and the Welsh author, Arthur Machen who inspired the obsession. This information on its own is worth the $3.99 price tag.
Now I have to find a copy of Machen’s works. As I do this, I will leave issue eight of Conan the Barbarian five out of five stars. This series has become a must for my pull box. I can’t wait for the next release.
