Reviewer Notes

From the Silver Age of Archie comics comes the return of the Jaguar! Many things have changed since Ralph Hardy first took up the mantel of Ai Apaec in the 1960s. It’s time to see what the newest generation of superheroes has to offer in this latest one-shot comic book branded with a retro styled Red Circle Comics logo.

Out of the three recent Achie superhero relaunches, I enjoyed this one the best. It seems the Ivette Velez version of the Jaguar debuted with the release of the New Crusaders comic book back in 2012, which itself was a relaunch of the superhero team created by Archie Comics back in the Golden Age of comics. I know this group best from the short-lived Red Circle Comics label days.

Keryl Brown Ahmed brings a light but entertaining story with the possibility of future releases. I’m not sure why Archie Comics would limit this to a one-shot because this character is full of potential. Some of Keryl’s dialog is in Spanish, but through the magic of Google Translate Camera feature, the words were instantly translated. I would recommend using the tool if you want to know what the college liberals are saying in their annoying banter.

The art by Tango was amazing. It’s not exactly the classic Archie style, as with Dan Parent’s work for example, but it has a similar feel. I did enjoy the pencils, inking, and colors much more than some of the Archie Horror title released in the past few years. I recommend this one-shot if you like characters such as Wonder Woman and the Black Panther. I’m keeping on the lookout for future editions of the Jaguar. This one gets a four out of five from me.
