The writer of the original Jurassic Park, David Koepp, is headed back to the world of dinosaurs to pen the next installment of the Jurassic World franchise. Deadline reports today that the new film may have found its director in David Leitch (Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde).

The outlet reports that early talks have begun to enlist the action film director, and they’ll need to move soon.

Universal Pictures set a theatrical release date for the new Jurassic World movie: July 2, 2025.

If the director isn’t already an indicator, we can expect the upcoming new installment to take a different route from the previous three entries. “The new movie will be a completely fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill,” Deadline reports. This reiterates the previous reports that Jurassic World aims to enter a new era for the franchise.

The  Jurassic World film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North. Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the Studio.

This news comes in the wake of Jurassic WorldJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion, a trilogy of sequels to the original classic that concluded in 2022. The last entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, brought in a billion dollars at the global box-office, all but ensuring Universal would want to continue this franchise.

The franchise will also return with “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” later this year, an animated series from Netflix set in the world of “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.”

While we wait for more news on Jurassic World, which is quickly heating up, we can see Leitch’s latest, Universal Picture’s The Fall Guy, in theaters this May.
