Christmas is coming a couple days early for fans and collectors of the Diamond Select Toys Marvel lines, as DST has additions to a whopping 5 Marvel lineups in their December 2023 solicitations. Coming in 2024: Marvel Select Annihilus, Gallery Joe Fixit, Animated Silver Surfer and busts of Ben Reilly Spider-Man and classic Hulk are now up for pre-order!
If you thought Diamond Select Toys would give collectors a respite from new Marvel pre-orders to end 2023, you thought wrong.
Not only did DST include the sole previously shown but unsolicited pieces from the long-running Marvel Select and Skottie Young Marvel Animated series, but the newest round of solicits also includes 3 never-before-seen collectibles from the resin bust and PVC lines!
The headliner from the new pre-orders for most is going to be the 7” Marvel Select Annihilus figure that was revealed during NYCC 2023 in October. The only Hasbro Marvel Legends Annihilus figure ever was a BAF way back in 2006, and that figure is nigh-unobtainable for under 100 bucks today, so a lot of fans are anxiously awaiting this Annihilus for their shelves.
Though the Annihilus Select action figure is 7” and thus larger then a standard 6” Marvel Legends figure, Annihilus is a larger villain so this is an instance where a Select will blend appropriately on a Legends shelf. At $29.99 for a 100% unique sculpted action figure, with large wings and packed with a pre-Cosmic Control Rod Annihilus figurine, this appears bound to be another hit in the making for DST. Early allotments of this particular figure from the new solicits are most likely to sell out early, so keep your eyes peeled, Marvel Select fans.
Continuing my personal favorite ongoing series of Marvel statues, we’ve got a less limited version of the Marvel Animated Silver Surfer statue. A highly limited SDCC 2023 Exclusive Chrome Silver Surfer was released in the summer, but this non-chrome iteration will let the larger fan base have a crack at Skottie Young Norrin Radd.
I love the chrome version so much that I bought two, but I think this fully painted one is worth picking up as well (at least to me). The white paint scheme looks more authentic to Skottie’s cover art and will fit more seamlessly in a display. I like this enough that I’m dumb enough to buy this sculpture for a third time.
The 1:2 scale Marvel Legends in 3-Dimensions line has become a surprise apple of my eye over the last couple years—and I particularly like the comic based busts, so I’m glad to see a non-MCU Legends in 3D Hulk bust getting released.
The very classic style of the hair on Hulk isn’t my favorite Banner hairdo, but the clear resin spittle in his mouth and piercing green eyes are right on the mark. $250 MSRP for an 11” resin bust that’s limited to 1000 pieces is a pretty solid value these days, though I prefer pre-ordering these myself since I can usually save at least 20 bucks that way.
Also on the busts front, we’ve got a smaller and cheaper mini bust of a Spider-Man costume I’ve been wanting an official resin of for 20+ years: the Gentle Giant Ben Reilly Spider-Man bust.
This is the costume that debuted in Sensational Spider-Man #1 way back in the 90s, and I think Gentle Giant has done a bang-up job with the colors and texture of Ben’s costume. What I’m less enamored with is the pose they chose for the bust’s design. Ben has a web line that it looks like Ben’s using as a lasso. It looks a bit ridiculous, though it won’t stop me from buying it.
Finally, we’ve got a Marvel Gallery PVC of Hulk in his Joe Fixit mobster getup. We got a new Marvel Legends Joe Fixit figure this year and have another coming in 2024, so it’s a good time if this is your favorite Hulk variation. The pin-striped suit and gangster hat look good, though I don’t have the spare space to devote for this 11” statue myself. 80 bucks for the size and heft of this is perfectly fair, though.
Annihilus Select and the rest of the new batch of DST solicitations are now up for order, and expected to be released in summer 2024. Only the busts and Animated Silver Surfer are numbered editions, although I think all 5 of these items will ultimately be popular releases.
Will any of these new collectibles from DST be earning your shelf space, Marvel collectors? What are you hoping to see solicited from all these series in 2024?
