Remember that “heavily rumored” series of 2024 Marvel Legends X-Men Wolverine two-packs in honor of Wolverine’s 50th anniversary that I talked about earlier this month? Not only is it real, but the first two pairs in the series are up for PO today: Marvel Legends Lilandra & Brood-Infected Wolverine and Cowboy Logan & the larger Jim Lee Sabretooth fans have demanded for years! Let’s have a look…
Pre-Order:
Lilandra & Brood Wolverine ►
Once that Empress Lilandra Marvel Legends figure was confirmed by Hasbro, I thought it was a foregone conclusion that all the “leaks” were correct. But that turned out to be a flawed assumption!
While the rumors pointed to a rather boring sounding Fang Wolverine based on this year’s Fang (of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard) figure, in reality we are getting something very different and much, much cooler.
As seen on the legendary cover of Uncanny X-Men #234, it’s a Marvel Legends Brood Wolverine figure from the classic Chris Claremont tale where Logan’s healing factor was battling a Brood infection. This is such a different, wild and crazy Wolverine variant. I love it!
The official photos also show us Lilandra’s mighty staff accessory for the first time, which looks appropriately royal and alien. This particular two-pack is a Fan Channel only release, which won’t be available at retail stores or Amazon, so I think this is likely to ultimately be the most difficult pairing in this series to obtain and also unlikely to be discounted in the future.
Meanwhile, a second confirmed set opening for orders today features two more figures hotly requested by 90s fans: Sabretooth and “Cowboy” Logan! We’ve had Logan and Victor Creed in recent years, but both these iterations bring fans something they’ve been asking for.
Along with a vicious expression and a mighty fur on his shoulder, this Marvel Legends Sabretooth finally comes on the large, beefy body fans have been waiting for. I’m a bit disgruntled about the pinned knees, but I appreciate the new pin-less arms integrated into this powerful body mold. As a whole, this 90s-looking Sabretooth seems fated to be my favorite figure ever of the character. I also think the $50 MSRP on this set is quite fair given the increased size and bulk of the Sabretooth figure. I’m grateful he’s not a Build-A-Figure!
While the Marvel Legends Motorcycle and Logan set gave us Wolverine in a tank top and jeans, I think this new Logan with cowboy hat and jacket will be closer to the version of the Canuck many fans (like me) visualize in their minds. He’s got an alternate grinning head, but I think the more serious head will be the default for most collectors on this one.
I wasn’t looking forward to yet more Wolverine figures, but Hasbro has given us some sweet ones here that are basically ironclad purchases for me because of both how good they are and also how essential the other figure in each pack is. What about you, X-Men fans? Are either of these sets destined to be added to your collection?
