Mortal Kombat 1 is reborn

It’s been some thirty years since Mortal Kombat was born. But today we get to take it back to the beginning with a reborn universe, new story and heroes and villains like never before. Are you ready for Mortal Kombat 1?

Mortal Kombat 1 from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros is available to purchase, download and play right now. And yes, we know that the official street date is that of September 19th. But there’s a way of playing some five days early.

A full reboot

Whether you wait until the ‘proper’ release day or jump in to Mortal Kombat 1 now, you’ll find a game that is seen as the latest instalment in the franchise. It’s just, after we got to Mortal Kombat 11, it seems the best way forward is to take it right back to the start.

It’s here where Mortal Kombat 1 comes in. Fully rebooted, you should expect this to have all the staples of a Mortal Kombat game, as well as a wide-ranging cast of legendary fighters with all-new backstories. They include Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Smoke, Rain, Li Mei, Tanya, Baraka, Geras, Reptile, Ashrah, Havik, General Shao, Sindel, Nitara, and Reiko.

And there’s a separate roster of Kameo Fighters who can assist during matches too.

We’ve been hands-on with Mortal Kombat 1 a couple of times already, most recently in the stress test which continued to build out the roster. Everything is looking hot too, and so we cannot wait to deliver our full review thoughts soon. We’re sure this one is going to fly.

How to play Mortal Kombat 1 early

Before that, you can get involved in Mortal Kombat 1 too. At least, if you splash out the cash on the Premium Edition. Sitting at £89.99 on the Xbox Store, this gives access to the base game, the Kombat Pack, Shang Tsung, Jean-Claude Van Damme and some Dragon Krystals. Most notably though, it’s the five days of early access that will tempt many.

The Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition is available right now, across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. You can’t play Mortal Kombat 1 on Xbox One.

If you aren’t fussed by the early access, then pick up the Standard Edition of the game for £64.99 from September 19th.

You’d do well to take in the official launch trailer for the game too.
