Pete Davidson’s debut hosting Saturday Night Live this week (May 6), which was set to feature musical guest Lil Uzi Vert, has been canceled. The show is joining other late-night programs like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in taking a pause amid the current Writers Guild of America strike, with re-runs airing in place of new material.
Davidson’s turn hosting SNL would have been his first time returning to studio 8H since his departure as a cast member in last year. Davidson spent nine seasons on the show, joining in 2014. This week was also supposed to mark Lil Uzi Vert’s first time on SNL, ahead of his Governor’s Ball appearance in early June.
The WGA strike was announced to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers was unable to come to an agreement with the union on matters of related to staffing, wages, and AI usage. The length of the strike will determine its outcome on other scripted series and bigger projects.
