Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense to Get Restored and Re-Released by A24

The 4K restoration of Jonathan Demme’s inimitable 1984 concert film will hit theaters later this year

Talking Heads’ inimitable 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, is going to get restored in 4K and re-released theatrically by A24, Deadline reports. In a fun teaser video accompanying the news, David Byrne heads to the dry cleaners to pick up his trademark huge suit from the film. Watch below.

In addition to the theatrical re-release, a deluxe edition of the Stop Making Sense soundtrack will come out on vinyl and digitally on August 18, according to Deadline. The reissue, courtesy of Rhino, will include the complete Stop Making Sense concert.

Stop Making Sense, directed by the late Jonathan Demme, was shot over three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983. The film was added to the National Film Registry in 2021.

David Byrne contributed “This Is a Life” to the soundtrack to A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once. He performed the song with Son Lux and one of the film’s stars, Stephanie Hsu, at the 2023 Academy Awards.
