While we never did get The Evil Within 3 (which it turns out, eventually became Ghostwire: Tokyo), a recent Easter Egg found in developer Tango Gameworks’ newest game seems to hint that we may still get it.

Per GamesRadar, fans have noted that Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush, which was released back in January for consoles and PC, has several references to The Evil Within series. Notably, however, is a newly uncovered Easter Egg that seemingly teases The Evil Within 3, or at least a new entry in the series.

During the cinematic preceding Track 11: The Needle Drop, you are shown taking an elevator ride to meet up with the game’s final boss. Just as the elevator reaches its destination, there’s a quick look at a screen that shows you’ve arrived at floor 776. The bottom of the screen has a newsfeed, which reads: “Sequel to popular survival horror franchise anounced [sic].”

You can check out the footage below with the timestamp.

Obviously, this is not a clear confirmation that The Evil Within 3 is in the works, as Tango Gameworks may just be messing with fans. Plus, the the fact that “announced” was misspelt, it could be all a joke. However, you would hope that the “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” nature of this Easter Egg, coupled with all of the other references, that the developer has eyes on revisiting the Survival Horror series.

Fans obviously want a third entry in The Evil Within series. Whether Tango Gameworks (and by extension, Bethesda Softworks) are willing to go ahead with a third entry with the prospect of potentially being limited to the Xbox and PC (what with that whole being owned by Microsoft thing), remains to be seen.
