Like a Dragon: Ishin! is gearing up for release by slowly releasing little titbits of info. Their short videos highlighting the farming, combat, minigames and more have gone down well, but the news that special guest cameos will also feature has gone down a storm. Two names have been announced so far: wrestling icon Kenny Omega and actor and Yakuza fanboy Rahul Kohli will both feature. Let’s have a look and see what that actually means.
First up is Rahul Kohli. As an actor you will recognise him from the Netflix shows The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. He’s also a keen gamer and has been featured in Rage 2 and Gears 5 to name but a few.
His involvement in Like a Dragon: Ishin! will be as one of the Trooper Cards. These are equippable cards that allow you to unleash a powerful ability when in a tight spot in a fight. Rahul Kohli will feature as Essence of Firestorm, an attack that sends forth waves of deadly fire to enemies unlucky enough to be stood in front of Ryoma.
“As a huge fan of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s games, I was honoured to be asked to be a guest for the Like a Dragon: Ishin! Trooper Cards. As someone who is emotionally invested in the Like a Dragon story, I’m nervously excited to take on this mantle of being a small part of Ryoma’s journey,” says Rahul Kohli. “The close relationship that SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have with their fan community, has been really exciting to see manifest in these cards. I’m very honoured to not only be a part of the community, but to also be a part of the series.”
Next up is Kenny Omega, former AEW World Champion and executive vice president of the company there. Having missed out on the Clan Creator storyline in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, where many other wrestlers featured, Omega has now been given a very powerful attack.
Named after his signature wrestling move, Essence of the One-Winged Angel will slash away at enemies with his angel’s wing. One-Winged Angel is also a reference to Final Fantasy VII, so does that mean that Final Fantasy is now canonical in Yakuza or vice-versa? I’m just trying to find a way to combine my two favourite gaming series here.
“I’ve been a fan of the Like a Dragon series for years, and to be forever immortalized in Like a Dragon: Ishin!, the newest entry in one of the most iconic game franchise of all time, is surreal,” says wrestling icon Kenny Omega. “I’m so excited about my Trooper Card, and I think players are going to love the artwork and attack animation – and the damage I can deal to enemies!”
“Designing Trooper Cards for Kenny and Rahul, who are passionate fans of the Like a Dragon series, has been a really fun, fulfilling experience. We worked with each of them individually to create their unique, personalized card, allowing them to let their creativity run wild. We loved the results, and we think players will too,” says Like a Dragon: Ishin! Chief Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto.

These special Trooper Cards will be available to download from the 17th February, the day that Like a Dragon: Ishin! starts its early access.
